Vivica D. Smith Pierre is an academic researcher and librarian. For the past 20 years, Dr. Pierre has worked as an academic librarian. She has contributed to the building and renovation of libraries at South Louisiana Community College, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Bunker Hill Community College, and at Broward College. Prior to that Dr. Pierre served on the faculty at California State University, Long Beach.  She earned her B.A. in Arts, Economics, and English from Spelman College, her M.L.I.S. in Library and Information Science from Louisiana State University, and her Ph.D. in Higher Education and Research from LSU. Pierre also earned the Master of Laws (LL.M.) in agriculture and health sciences from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Her research interest are Distance education, Higher Education, Information Literacy, Designing Libraries, and the Role of Academic Libraries on Student Experience and Student Success.

As Associate Dean, Library Services. I play a key role in working alongside the Dean of Libraries and Academic Success Centers, other associate deans, and faculty librarians and staff collegewide and online.
Leads the University/College Library (U/CL) operations of Library Service departments available to Broward College (BC) and Florida Atlantic University (FAU) students, staff, and faculty. This position also supervises the full time and part time Broward College library faculty and staff assigned to other college locations. Implements and develops policies and procedures for areas including, but not limited to: Reference (college wide), Circulation, Course Reserves (college wide), Periodicals, Interlibrary Loan, Collection Development (college wide), and Library Instruction (college wide) and Lib Chat and Ask A Librarian online reference services.
